IMG-0476 Nice having images to work from since it is a bit cold to sketch outside.  I have moved my birdfeeders so I hope to get a few subjects I can sketch.

unnamed Having time for some sketching of the last of the fall flowers.  The gentians are some of my favorite in the prairie and are one of the last to bloom before the prairie goes dormant for the winter.  I love to draw and can't wait until I retire to do this full time.  I care more about capturing the essence of the flower and less about the exactness.   More the 'art' and less of the scientific illustration.

So, trying to figure out how to post a reply is a bit of a challenge...frustrated that pencil doesn't scan very well.  Working from a photo is good and bad - great for reference when drawing but I also find it hard to capture the space around the bird as it looks flat.  Proportions were challenging but with practice that should improve.  I had never noticed how lethal the bird claws look, very gnarly and pointy!  Whiskers around the bill and delicate feathers.
