I really like the stippling and blending but my son likes to use cross-hatching and contour hatching and we're both enjoying practicing the new techniques together!

It's a little daunting to look at my drawing after seeing those of others! I know it's not about comparisons but I think it's pretty human to start looking at the differences. On the other hand, it was also inspiring, particularly seeing how others used watercolors in such thoughtful ways. I have more experience drawing from photos vs drawing from nature (part of what I'd like to do better is drawing outside more!) so it felt ok to me. I noticed the shapes in the bird (some great triangles!) that I wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't been drawing it.

I teach teachers about how to make science and nature alive for their students K-12, and one of the methods I use is science and nature notebooks/ journals. I would like to be better about nature journaling myself, for my own benefit, but I'd also like to be better able to guide my teacher candidates in the process, including why doing it can help you learn. I love looking at the watercolors- I have sketches in mine but haven't taken that kind of time to create watercolors. I look forward to giving it a try! The monthly entries that Holly Faulkner talks about could work well for me, even if my drawings are not at that level.
