So glad you  had us do 4 subjects because  I found myself looking at the subject  as a big shape immediately , and then looking at the other shapes within , before I started started to use the pencil.  As I drew, I was thinking of the shapes as I was seeing them and  I felt that this is how artists must see. My fourth picture really pleased me.  Thank you so much for this exercise.  It has made a big difference to me. I feel like I have begun to develop a skill. Amazing! It may look more like a kangaroo than a a springbok to most viewers , but to me it is a success!  By the way, as a lefty, I  remembered to start on the right side this time and that probably helped , too. My drawing looks ok but it takes me about 10 min. to start. then I tried  to speed up. The drawing took me about 40 minutes.. , probably way too long. I didn't know how to paint the bird, so I hope to learn that in another class. I wouldnt' have noticed the feet, the number of  feathers , the type of tree/leaves that was the habitat. I dont know how to show you my work.  Maybe you /someone can you send me any suggestions on that?  I can take a picture on my phone, but how do I get that into my computer?  sorry to be so ignorant. Hi , I really enjoyed seeing the journals!  I have a question though, if I mark it Complete, will I be able to return to it?   Answering the above questions, I am beginning because I : 1. want to improve my drawing skills with regular practice  and observing nature will be fun for me - I love keeping track of the birds in my yard and at our feeder.  I'm really hoping that I will develop a daily habit  of 1-hour and an ability to draw and paint faster. 2. I will follow their practice of dating, with time, place, time of day and weather and 3. I loved the way they all explained how by the experience of looking at the subject carefully,  questioning a behavior,  and then staying with the subject for  an amount of time because they were drawing it , they saw the answer right in front of their eyes! And now when they look at their journal, the memory of the day comes right back!!! I learned so much from all the artists, they were all so good at describing their experience and practice, I am  so sincerrely  grateful to you all. Eileen McNally aka cherryred
