GayleParticipantI have really enjoyed this course. It has encouraged me to keep journaling and learning more about nature as well as working to improve my sketching and watercolor skills. My suggestion for myself and all students would be to listen to Liz's advice to "be gentle with yourself". Thank you Liz!in reply to: Tips to Keep You Going #724710

GayleParticipantI am happy with my progress. I am able to see proportions and negative space and feeling more confident in drawing what I see. I used color pencil for my first drawing but am now getting more comfortable with watercolor: using wet on wet and wet on dry. I still want to work on everything and plan on giving this little guy another try or two in the future. Thank you for a wonderful and encouraging course!in reply to: See How Far You’ve Come #724213

GayleParticipantThis was fun as I had no expectations of the outcomes; no pressure. It helped me stay focused on my subject, but I was also trying to remember my placement on the page (muscle memory), which was distracting from the subject.in reply to: Focusing on Your Subject – Blind Contour Drawing #648660

GayleParticipantI think making the comparisons helped me pay more attention to the details. Writing and recording numerical data provide information I am unable to successfully show in my drawings. As my drawing skills improve, I will probably incorporate less writing and data.in reply to: The Power of Comparison #648441

GayleParticipantMy spot was my backyard in Sonoma County. I enjoyed taking the time to observe and appreciate it's natural beauty after a week on the edge of evacuating due to the Kincaid fire. I found a dried seed pod I had not noticed before and discovered it was from a small dogwood tree. I don't normally close my eyes to observe, but as soon as I did I could really smell the aroma of the bay tree.in reply to: Opening Your Senses #648354

GayleParticipantIt was good to learn a variety of marks to use for shading, and it is getting easier to put pencil to paper. I would like to try more stippling - its a challenging skill.in reply to: Illustrating the 3D World #648349
