This is My first time with watercolors but have taken a class in oils years ago. My biggest challenge is applying white to the eye of birds -the underneath and the reflective dot in the pupil. Oils allow you to just paint over after it has dried. Maybe I need to relax the finished product.
Bravo to a wonderful comparison of the feet and follow-up to the question it evoked! It is really too cold where I live to get out and do a comparison study but cannot wait to try my hand at it.
The legs & claws were the most challenging but the ability to look at a fixed object as opposed to a moving one makes it easier to focus on detail. Out in the field, those details probably become more of a blur and thus the journalist can take more liberty in the drawing.
Wish I had used color.
The claws and legs were the most challenging but from a fixed object, detail was easier to capture. Out in the field one might only capture a primitive rendering, thus missing minute details that distinguish one species from another. Wish I had used color.
My short time at journaling has mainly been philosophical, reflecting on my parent’s lives and my extension of them. They instilled in me the love of anything outdoors. My extensive hiking adventures have been recorded with narrative and photos but no illustrations. In addition, I have recorded quotes from a wide range of books that have appealed to me.
It is my intention to learn to capture what I see in nature with pen & pencil and maybe attach a certain quote that I have found meaningful.
