I found that measuring proportions in the field has helped me a lot. Not so much on moving objects though. But I now can get a pretty good idea on moving objects since I think about it now.
I found that I try to draw too much detail and need to learn to gesture draw the outlines of the subject. Gesture drawing is bringing my attention to the dimensions of the subject rather than the small details markings. I definitely need to practice gesture drawing more to get past the learning curve. But I like it and hope to get better at it. Practice, practice, practice I guess.
My sit spot was at a botanical garden. I have always loved tree bark and decided to draw the trunk of a Magnolia tree. I have tried this in the past but feel a lot better about the drawing this time due to the technics I have learned in this course ie: contour, cross hatching, stippling, scribbling and blending. I can see that I need to work on Chiaroscura more and dimensions.
Drawing was challenging, particularly the sizing and spacing of the complete drawing, then the bird shape and beak I found difficult. Many details of the photo where more obvious when drawing the bird.
