For my sit spot I went to a ditch that runs next to/behind my neighborhood, where I have previously seen multiple birds including a Great Blue Heron.  I sat on the ground next to the ditch, near an orange tree where I saw some kind of warbler as I walked up.  The birds made themselves very scarce at first and were not willing to come close enough for me get a picture. After about 30 to 40 minutes the birds started to get used to me and I had a Northern Mocking Bird come and land on the orange tree. Unfortunately right after this between some barking dogs and a Cooper's Hawk, which I did get some good pics of,  I did not have much luck with any other birds. DSC_0462DSC_0437DSC_0434

I am not quite sure what my goals are yet. I like taking photos in general and I love taking photos of birds, though I have never taken any classes. I definitely what a DSLR or mirrorless camera because I want the quality. A lot of the pictures I have seen and really liked have been taken with a Nikon D7500 or a Cannon EOS 7D Mark II. I am not sure yet how much I want to spend though and therefore will be looking at other options as well. I also want to get a zoom lens and tripod, and maybe a teleconverter though I will probably wait on this one. I am excited to be able to take this course and get invaluable information and tips about photography in general and especially bird photography!

I photographed this Red-Bellied Woodpecker in my yard. I had tried previously to find one on a trail, and had no luck. So knowing I sometimes see them at my feeder, I got up early and waited. Luckily I got to see one! It was hopping around a Popcorn tree picking the seeds and hiding them in crevices. DSCN2421 (2)DSCN2459 (2)DSCN2422

20201120_223701_Burst01I love drawing from photos because you can take as long as you want! I had a little trouble getting the body shape right at first, but once I got it filling in the details was fairly easy. I don't think I would have noticed that some of the leaves have bug bites in them if I had not taken the time to draw it.
