RicardoParticipantI do feel the space in front leaves more breathing room for the inflight image.in reply to: Practice Crafting Great Bird Photos #865564

RicardoParticipantMy goal is to showcase the bird and its beauty, specially the colors. But for this shot I wanted to capture a unique behavior since she was standing still on a branch for a while. So I just waited for a few minutes until she reached for the seed on the tree and got ready with the camera. The hardest part is to crop the image since I like to show all the environment. I like seeing the forms of the leaves and how that form plays with the forms of the bird as well.

RicardoParticipantI did learn that if I wanted to get close and capture a good image, I had to let them get use to me, since every time I tried to get close, they would immediately walk away slowly away from me. I knew they would get comfortable at some point since they stopped moving away and started feeding right away. In this image they are still watching me but it was a few minutes after, that they relaxed and started feeding. I had done this game of cat a mouse more than 4 times at this point. I had to settle for a landscape picture instead of a close up. My only zoom lens is a 300 mm with a teleconverter of 1.4 because it is very easy to carry on my trips.in reply to: Practice Getting Creative and Telling Stories #851277

RicardoParticipantGot lucky when I had a wide aperture of F/5.6 mostly because of very weak light since there was a lot of fog passing by but created a very colorful background to my composition. I was trying to get a frontal shot of his colors on his crest.in reply to: Practice Crafting Great Bird Photos #850853

RicardoParticipantWorked with the rule of thirds and created more breathing space to make more contrast with the colors of the bird and the dark background.in reply to: Practice Crafting Great Bird Photos #850841

RicardoParticipantBirders alert me that this Sword Billed hummingbird would feed from the flowers you see in white on the background so I was able to positioned my self to get a good angle to capture the image. I rely on locals for the best sightings most of the time and it usually has provided me great opportunities for some great images.in reply to: Practice Understanding Birds for Better Photos #850410
