The naturescaping is in the future on my new property. In the meantime, feeders and a water dish are attracting a variety of birds from the surrounding woods and meadows -- finches, sparrows, wrens, nuthatches, chickadees, tufted titmouses, doves, juncos, bluebirds, even a huge raven that came over to enjoy the seed I put on the ground. I'm hoping the fruit trees I'll plant will attract cedar waxwings -- such a beautiful bird!

Again, great resources here! I'll be using them all.

Great resources here -- the plant databases at the Audubon and Lady Bird Johnson sites. I'll be using these for planting in both the sunny and the shady areas on my property and getting rid of turf grass and invasives.

"Messy" sort goes against the grain, a real cultural adjustment. I'm working on it!

Will be adding nectar and fruiting plants, evergreens, and reducing turf area. I have a shallow birdbath and a few birds have drunk and bathed there. But it's in the sun and elevated -- now I'll move it into the shade and onto the ground.

I recently moved into a new home, in a beautiful area in mountain foothills. The views are wonderful, and my neighbors and I are surrounded by 120 acres of woods and meadows teeming with birds and other wildlife. On the negative side, my property is steeply sloped and most of it is covered with turf grass that has been poorly maintained. My goals are to terrace and stabilize the slopes, to add woody and herbaceous plants for the benefit of wildlife and for my own enjoyment, and to greatly reduce the amount of turf grass. A lot of different birds visit my feeders, and I'd like for my gardens to provide additional food for them.
