MaribethParticipantSCHLITZ AUDUBON CENTER: Holds a photo shoot every year. Photographers come from all over the country to participate. They also have a raptor program every few weeks. Participants can sketch, draw, paint or photo the birds. I have a few quick sketches from one of these events. My photos are better than my sketches. I have been attending the Audubon's painting classes and hope to improve/ learning a lot about the resident 'Birds'.in reply to: Giving Your Drawings Depth #956866

MaribethParticipantMy bird picture had so many erasures on the page;I decided to put the handsome guy on a background. Hopefully In April; I will be taking a drawing class at Schlitz Audubon Center. I am trying to improve sketching. I created a color palette with 'paints gray' white, ochre, van dyke brown, and mixed in a few blues. It took awhile to getting a color that was close to some of the feathers. the feathers on the head seemed to match several of the tail feathers. the beak also blended into the feather shades. I would have liked to see the wings in an open position. the colors are some times different. Gray Crowned Rosy Finchin reply to: Capturing Nature’s Color Palettes #956770

MaribethParticipantThe Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard recently posted on line, His commitment to the environment. I think that this is important for a class like this to consider. Journaling is inspiring. I am a retired art teacher and can' wait to go out and practice the many valuable lessons I have learned in this course.in reply to: The Power of Reflection #956240

MaribethParticipantI tried to measure the bird from the edge of it to the edge of the square. I then used a 'no copy blue pencil' for the birds out line. The last item was filling in the negative space. I should have just sketched the negative space and erased what did not work. I will try this again.in reply to: Getting the Proportions Right #954759

MaribethParticipantJournaling for the first time is a challenge. I like to do a lot of photos and need to stop to fill out the journal. I had been living in Hawaii before 'covid and am now staying in a very cold and unfriendly climate. Wisconsin. I am going through my photos and deciding what to compare in the flower pictures. The Eagle picture is from a 'raptor' shoot at the local Audubon society in Fox Point Wisconsin. The journal will allow me to include pertinent information about the plants, birds, and landscape. The info will be great to have. I am going to do the 'sit spot' and start to compare and search out information about my subject. I will also try to sketch the wildlife I see. Journaling is a great tool. My grand children are also trying this. I can not wait for it to get warm out so I can work out side and not from a photo.in reply to: Style Your Journal Your Way #954479

MaribethParticipantTimed Gesture drawings. Small but I think would have been better if larger. When the snow vanishes; will go looking for live birds and animal to gesture draw. This will be fun! ( I am not very 'quick') The results????in reply to: Capturing Behavior – Gesture Drawing #954190
