WilliamParticipantThis was a good exercise. I found that I was looking more at the shapes than the subject.in reply to: Drawing What You See – Upside Down Drawing #649134

WilliamParticipantI have always liked small landscapes. For this lesson I picked a spot I created in the backyard. Since I made this spot it attracts a lot of the neighborhood wildlife. I was able to use the tools taught in the lessons to set up the proportions for this quick sketch.in reply to: Getting the Proportions Right #648785

WilliamParticipantSquirrels are plentiful in my yard. They use the trees as a highway to go up and down the street. This time of the year they are down on the ground alot. I guess they are preparing for winter. There are so many of them, it made for a good subject for the lesson.in reply to: Capturing Behavior – Gesture Drawing #648166

WilliamParticipantI have lived in the same house since 1976 and watched the pines and the oaks grow in the front yard. Many times we have had to cut low hanging branches off and two years ago had to hire a company to have a major tree trimming for all the trees in the front yard. I have watched these trees grow and change over the years, so I picked to do a comparison of the bark in the trunk area of a pine and oak .in reply to: The Power of Comparison #647354

WilliamParticipantI was a bit aggravated when I noticed the squirrels digging in the new mulch, planting acorns around my bushes. While standing there looking at their handiwork I saw a pattern in the squirrels digging. This makes me wonder was this a method that they use or was it a random thing that just happened. I will pay attention and see if it will happen next time.in reply to: Noticing Themes in Nature #646758

WilliamParticipantI really enjoyed this lesson. It has been a while since I have been out to my reading spot in the back yard. I noticed the effects that the drought has had on the plants and the trees. I noticed how the trees were losing their leaves without going through the brilliant color change they usually do. Hopefully we will get some rain soon.in reply to: Opening Your Senses #646520

WilliamParticipantI have not done any drawing or sketching in many years. The lesson on drawing basics is helping me to remember just how much I have forgotten and how to look at the object.in reply to: Illustrating the 3D World #646421

WilliamParticipantSketching and drawing is something I have not done in many years. Life got very busy and things that I used to do and enjoy, I did not have time to do. I have always enjoyed watching birds, particularly shore birds. I am using this course to help me get back to one of the things that I enjoy. I have done journals on the job before and realize the importance of doing them. I want to start a journal so I can do my sketching and record the details so they can be used later for my drawings.in reply to: Style Your Journal Your Way #645933
