I am fortunate to live in southern California and have Allen's, Anna's, Costa's regularly come to my feeders. I have even had a Black-chinned on occasion. I have several feeders, spread out, because one of the Allen's Hummingbirds is quite a defender of the food source.

Activity 1: I discovered and started using the Merlin app awhile back. It is really helpful and the ability to download packs for different areas when I travel have been very helpful. I have also recommended it to friends who are casual bird watchers as it is very easy and intuitive to use. I like to write hand notes, but will try eBird as I start getting out again. Activity 2: I've joined the local Audubon chapter and can't wait until outings will be safe to begin again.

Activity 1: Now that some of our local trails have opened, I had a chance to visit a nearby canyon trail. It has upland scrub, some limited riparian, and a pond at the beginning. I heard a lot more birds that I saw, but there were hummingbirds, and a California Thrasher in the scrub area, I heard some drumming in the trees in the riparian section, but was unable to locate the bird. Today there were no water birds at the pond, I have seen ducks and a great blue heron in the past. Activity 2: I looked at the species ebird lists for the 2 Arizona sites. The Roger Road site appears to have both shrubby/scrubby habitat types and some wetlands features, while the Mt. Lemmon site appeared to have more birds that like forested habitats.

I just set up some feeders and added one for orioles. After 3 days a male Hooded Oriole found it. It has come back the last few days and lands on the top of the pole and calls, then flies down to feed. Today after he did this he was joined by a female.

Activity 1: Backyard - Observed some of the regulars: House finch, California Towhee, Black Phoebe, Mourning dove. But had a couple of new ones with yellow markings...after consultation with a field guide and the merlin app, identified one as a House finch with yellow where most have the red to orange, and the other as a Lesser goldfinch.

Activity 3: With options these days limited to a backyard bird sit or a walk around the neighborhood, I have found I am seeing more species in then when I was hurrying through. Favorites are the California Towhees and the Black Phoebes. Watching behavior is fascinating.
