KarenParticipantI didn’t get far because I am self quarantining after an extended trip in our RV and we want to make sure we weren’t exposed to the Covid19 virus before heading out among the public again. Also, it is very hot here. Forecast says possibly 109° high today.in reply to: Opening Your Senses #723040

KarenParticipantWhat inspired me to begin nature journaling? earlier this year I took a course to become a certified Nevada Naturalist. We had to keep a journal. I had already been practicing drawing from photos I’ve taken so the journal part of the naturalist course seemed easy, but then I thought I should try to draw while in the field. Yikes! It’s a challenge. I like all the different journals that have been presented here. I am not sure what style I will use, but a daily journal seems a bit tough. Maybe I’ll start with journaling One bird while I am out exploring the state and federal parks in my area while bird watching. It’s always nice to be able to stop and reflect on nature’s beauty.in reply to: Style Your Journal Your Way #652579

KarenParticipantI enjoy drawing from photos as it gives me a chance to really look at the subtle color changes, shadows, bright yellow to olive and black wing edges. When I drew this picture I noticed almost immediately that I was focusing on the details way too soon and not paying enough Attention to the scale and the shape of the bird. It needs to be. Bit plumper and the detail of the wing could actually be a little less messy. I think drawing from life in the field is going to be a challenge for me. I have never drawn from life, not even a building. Something that moves around a lot will force me to start focusing on shapes and basic colors before I can work on more details in the sketch.in reply to: Jump Right in! #652578
