Unike Nancy (below), it has been snowing here, so sitting outside was a bit chilly; nevertheless, I gave it a try.  The first time a few days ago, I was focusing on birds and had a very difficult time attempting to draw them.  This second time I focused on flowers and tree fungus which sat still!  Very enjoyable, and shows me how very much I have yet to learn. How can I show an area of whiteness that occurs at the edge of the object?  It becomes white on white page!  I'm am becoming less hesitant to open my journal and am enjoying the exercises.fullsizeoutput_6fd

The most difficult part of this exercise for me was getting the proportions right.  Drawing it made me focus on the layers of feathers which I hadn't really analyzed before.  I would like to be able to show the different kinds of textures on the bird  - soft, fluffy, sharp, shiny etc.  but I have no idea how to do that.  This type of exercise makes me slow down and look at details in a way I don't do when I'm taking photos.fullsizeoutput_6bf
