I have seen a Great Gray Owl at Sax Zim Bog in Minnesota during the winter. A stunning site.

I live in St. Paul, Minnesota, which is in the southern half of the state. I don't see many ravens here, and it looks like the range map confirms that. I live in a suburban townhouse association and am taking this course, because I see and hear crows very regularly. They seem to be around all the time, and will often fly down onto my lawn usually in pairs or groups. They are indeed very noisy! I'm pretty sure there's a nest up high in a tree, because I've seen them there. To me, it looks similar to a squirrel's nest--is that the case?

I saw a Great Gray Owl and a Boreal Owl at Sax Zim Bog in northern Minnesota, USA. I saw a Burrowing Owl at Santa Cruz Flats in Tucson, Arizona, last winter. They were so darn cute! In 2013-2014, I remember hearing about a Snowy Owl that was seen at the airport here in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I wasn't into birding then, so I missed a grand opportunity to see it. Dumb. I've seen Great Horned Owls in Minnesota and Arizona.

I absolutely love spending time in nature and observing the details. I don't know how to draw, so am taking this course to help me capture the things I see and experience. I love words and am interested in combining drawing with poetry. I'm scared spitless, because I honestly don't feel I can draw! But I took inspiration and courage from someone who said they were in the same boat as I, and that our instructor was really good with beginners. I figure I'll be able to discover some creative ideas that will work for me. Wish me luck!   So here's a question from a newbie: when she says write in your nature journal, is she referring to the moleskin art watercolor album? Thanks.
