I develop all things BirdWise, Bird Academy’s interactive tool for practicing bird identification through guided quizzing. My primary focus is on backend development. I built the system that powers the BirdWise experience—from quizzing and performance stats to ID tips. My work includes designing and implementing new features, integrating with other software across the Lab, maintaining high data quality for both species and quiz content, managing infrastructure, and ensuring the backend is production-ready and performs reliably under load.

I have a degree in Computer Science, and spent several years developing backend systems in the corporate tech industry. I then took a break from tech to serve as an AmeriCorps conservation steward, building and restoring hiking trails in New Hampshire. At the Lab of Ornithology, I’ve found a meaningful balance between building high-quality software and supporting conservation efforts.
