I have been around white-tailed deer my entire life. I had no idea they made vocalizations like those presented here! Wow. Same with raccoons...I have never had the pleasure of hearing them call. I have heard owls at night. I just returned from Shenandoah National Park and heard owls at night. But have no idea which of the many species located in the park were doing the calling.

The most striking difference between the lifestyle of owls and other birds is their adaptation to the night. I have always been fascinated by nocturnal animals who adapt to this very different way of living. Owls, like other birds, build nests, lay eggs, incubate those eggs, and care for thier young.

Yes! I had no idea there were species of owls that specialize in eating fish.

I was fortunate enough to see snowy owls near Churchill Manitoba while out on the tundra doing climate change research. They were much larger than I expected. They were gorgeous while in flight. I also spotted two Cuban pygmy owls while in Cuba. This was exciting because they are found nowhere else on Earth!
