Hi everyone! I recently purchased a 300mm lens for my Nikon D40.  Since the camera is older I can’t use autofocus with this lens. In the field I am having trouble getting my images sharp. Does anyone have some tips or advice on how to best use manual focus in the field?

    • FInd out if a manual focusing screen can be swapped in for your model camera.   Here is a random article that talks about this:  Article on focusing screens

Using a lens that won't autofocus on an older camera is not ideal for bird photography. Birds move around quickly and by the time you think you have it in focus, it's gone. Even the slightest move will get you an out of focus shot. Recommend you upgrade your Nikon D40.
