      I was birding earlier in the week at an area that had a fair number of migrating warblers. I noticed a number of birds had small black (~2cm dia) areas on their necks. On closer inspection the areas were where some feathers had been lost and others were forced up so that the area looked black. Were these due to wind forcing the feathers up?
