I found this exercise and Jane's approach overall, very helpful. For someone with a lot more experience, drawing shapes might be too basic. But as a complete novice, it taught me how to focus on the subject matter and has built my confidence that I might actually be able to do this!

Hello - I have tried to get in touch with Jane via social media, as I see no other way to contact her...I live remotely without local purchase options for art supplies. I am looking for a recommendation for an online art supply that carries all of the supplies for this course. I have tried to search on my own, without much success. I've not had a response from Jane, so am sort of desperately trying to get a response here. Thank you.

Try DickBlick online. Good prices big selection.

@Jill Leichter Thank you. Going there now... :)

@Jill Leichter I second DickBlick -- they have everything, and at just about the best prices.

Also Jerry’s Artarama(NJ) and Cheap Joe’s (NC) and Amazon have stock. I’ve been looking around and many of the sets have Hansa Yellow instead of Benzomida yellow…they are equivalent. I decided to try it with gouache as I like water soluble paints. There are also sets like Arteza that are cheap. You will get your brush miles in and practice and that’s what counts.

@Sara Hi Sara, The layering techniques that Jane teaches in this course work best with paints that are transparent but not water soluble, like acrylics. Jill

Learning about birds' anatomy and seeing the shapes is interesting and teaches me about birds simultaneously. I am a little impatient when drawing only geometric shapes first. I tend to take a shortcut. :-) However, seeing the shapes and understanding how they "build" the bird is helping me a lot with proportions.

It's looking good.
