I'm looking for tips on flying with parabolic dish. In my case, I'd like to bring my Telinga parabolic dish on some international trips. It can roll up to about 6'' diameter but it is slightly larger (23'') than typical carry-on size (22''). I'm wondering if people normally check the dish in some kind of hard cased tube or if there is a way to bring it on as a carry-on since it is special equipment. Thanks for any tips on carrying cases or strategies for taking it as a carry-on.

Hi John. Good question! I've traveled a few different ways with a Telinga. I have a hard suitcase, so sometimes I have rolled the Telinga dish, packed it with clothes to create internal support, and then put it in my checked suitcase. Other times, I've wrapped it in plastic, then carried it on the plane as my "personal item," and then placed it under my seat or waited to put it in an overhead bin after everybody else has crammed in their carry-on luggage. I've seen hard tubes, and they would add another level of protection, but I've never used one. Let us know what you end up doing! -Matt
