I read all the comments in this forum before attempting the under painting and I still managed to paint the head too dark. So I tried adding more water to the paint, dabbing the brush before applying and then Jane said, "Don't forget to keep the paint wet as you move it around." That was a good reminder.     20240130_UPBB

IMG_6083It was frustrating to get the paints to match once running out. Also, the colors are not close to matching the color suggestions provided as my skill level in matching has yet to be perfected.

This is my retake of the first layer, after having everything look too dark and opaque. Dis anyone figure out why the brushes are too wet and paint comes too liquified when trying a small dot?

I was filling the reservoir with too much water and had a similar problem. I found that if I put water to the just the fill line in the reservoir, I can manage the amount of wetness better. Also, I make sure to wipe the excess water from the brush before I put it into the paint. However, my very small round brush can be wetter than I would like it to be even after doing this. At times, I have taken to using this brush without the attached reservoir.

Like others, my head color is darker than Jane's - it seems she used more of a thin wash - my color does nearly match the vibrant light blue I see in the photo on my screen, maybe that is what everyone else is finding when they go to compare their work to Jane's blue.  My neck color is also more intense, will need to take that into consideration when I do the overpainting, lol Barn swallow underpainting

Blue ended up being darker than anticipated and need to work on getting the paint consistency to be smoother. At least it still resembles a barn swallow ;) These are such helpful lessons to practice these and other techniques! 8974DA65-65AD-4C24-B244-3C5ED1839DC2
