I'm new here and new to birding and bird photography. Last week my wife and I were housesitting in my old stomping grounds in the Clairmont neighborhood of San Diego. I took my camera to Mission Bay and found some interesting subjects, mostly shore birds. I caught a few photos of a bird I didn't recognize. At first I mis-identified it as a Reddish Egret (a fairly rare finding in San Diego) but with the help of the San DIego Audubon Society, I was informed it was a very rare sighting (locally) of a Little Blue Heron. 051A0455Dtcrp   051A0459DTcrp   051A0462DTcrp

Very cool photos of the Little Blue Heron, at Mission Bay! My Dad is retired out there and sees all kinds of feathered friends too. Thanks for sharing. Your pics are somewhat exotic to those of us, away from the Pacific coastline. I'm new to the site, as well, and discovering new sights & sounds quite frequently.

Hey Michael, this is in fact a Little Blue Heron, we have these year-round in South Carolina so I am 100% about this ID, a Reddish Egret is a lot bigger than the Little Blue Heron
