    cardinal2 Final drawing - with alteration to back feathers (thanks, Jenny).  The hardest part was getting the shape of the leading edge of the primaries (the emargination line) in the right place.  I think it's also important to remember that this is not a drawing in its own right, but a guide for the painting which is to come.  Hence it looks a little stark - and there is still a chance to make alterations in the painting phase.

    Hi Jenny,  I read your comment about the unrealistic marks on the back - and realized I had done exactly the same thing!  I will alter this before posting the pic - many thanks - I would not have picked this up until too late...

    swallow Individual flight feathers quite a challenge - I have never tried to draw in such detail before.  It was interesting to trace the reference photo then lay it over my completed freehand drawing and see where the differences were - despite all the careful measurements.  But I think this captures the essence of the bird well enough to progress to painting.
