I love the detail on the leaves!  Not only is it pleasing to the eye and gives the bird a sense of place, but possibly an indication of bird behaviour that you've made note of in your journal? I'm just getting into birding, coming from a natural resources background.  So even though I can't yet identify your bird, when I see what looks like herbivory on otherwise green foliage I think- maybe you saw this bird in the mid-late summer? maybe there's an infestation and this is a beetle-eater? I'm going to take this cue from you and make sure to give the bird an accurate setting!
