JenaParticipant1 Birds matter to me selfishly since I derive endless joy from watching my hummers and backyard birds and critters multiple times per day. 2. I will never have an outdoor cat- all of my cats are strictly indoor. 3. I’m still evolving as a birdwatcher and haven’t paid enough attention to my year round or migrant neighbors to notice a difference. 4. I would like to improve my ID skills - enough to feel confident enough to contribute to the Merlin community or as a citizen scientist.in reply to: Activities: Helping Birds in Your World #1035939

JenaParticipantActivity 3 I listened outside for 5 minutes using my favorite app ever!!! Merlin is the best. I distinctly heard 4 different species- spotted Towee, yellow rumped warbler, house finch, European starling and Merlin also identified a Bewick’s wrenin reply to: Activities: Noticing Behaviors #1015097

JenaParticipantActivity 2 I see Black Phoebes American Crows and Acorn Woodpeckers and many others everyday. I have yet to identify visiting species. Perhaps on my walk today.in reply to: Activities: Different Seasons, Different Birds #983803

JenaParticipantActivity 2- I’m traveling and staying in Annapolis MD. I browsed Merlin’s most likely list for the area. On my morning walk by sight I identified many American Robins, a Northern Mockingbird, a few Northern Cardinals. Using the app sound ID, it identified a blue jay, common grackle, and some others that I didn’t have a chance to see. Hoping to actually spot a beautiful blue jay. I was so excited to use the bird sound feature. It’s awesome!!!in reply to: Activities: Local Bird Exploration #976134

JenaParticipantI was so excited to find out about the Bird Cams!! The cam at Cornell was very active. I saw a couple of different woodpeckers - one make one maybe a female same species. I also spotted a dove. on the MT Osprey Cam, it looked like a sterling was hijacking the nest!!in reply to: Activities: Bird ID Practice #973295

JenaParticipantActivity 3- I’m sharing a favorite bird that I see frequently in my backyard. I think it’s an oak titmouse or plain titmouse which is a songbird. Specifically, I’m not sure if it’s a small flycatcher. I love the tuft of feathers on top of its head. Makes me happy!!in reply to: Activities: Exploring Birds #973172
