I enjoyed seeing the magnificent diversity of hummingbirds, especially seeing their courtship practices. I also enjoyed hearing about the dynamics of flight compared to other birds.
I hadn’t thought about it, but it’s amazing to hear that hummingbirds don’t have much fat reserves and would starve in a few hours if they didn’t have ways of conserving energy. I’m glad that humans can survive longer without food if we need to!
Crows and ravens are frequently on the college campus where I work. People seem to be pretty neutral toward them. I most commonly see them on grassy open area and nearby trees, and enjoy seeing them.
Here in Flagstaff, AZ, we get both crows and ravens. I feel like I'm pretty good at telling them apart, but I think the tail shapes in flight aren't always as different as you may think.
I love both kinds of these birds!
