Nia Mitchell Marketing Specialist

At Bird Academy, I support outreach, marketing, and engagement by creating content, designing visuals, and promoting courses and events. My role blends using data and audience feedback with creative, effective communication that helps Bird Academy reach a broader audience, while occasionally collaborating with other departments across the Lab. One of the best parts of working at Bird Academy is being part of a team that is dedicated to creating engaging learning experiences that are as welcoming as they are informative.

I’ve always loved being in nature, learning new things, and sharing what I’ve learned—especially when I can follow my curiosity and create something from it.I studied English and education in undergrad, then worked in Ithaca schools, Cornell’s Mann Library, and at Picaflor Farm. The farm’s pollinator-friendly approach, and the owner’s thoughtful way of sharing knowledge about birds and nature inspired me to return to school. I’m currently studying Environmental Studies, focusing on ornithology and planning to pursue a master’s in science communication. It’s been inspiring to continue my education while working at the Lab. I’m surrounded by people who care deeply about birds and nature, and I’m constantly learning so much from them.

Outside of work, I love hiking, gardening, foraging, practicing yoga, and watching birds from my (enclosed!) balcony catio with my cat.
