[Gulls calling]

Kevin McGowan: Gulls.

You see them all the time. They’re fairly common, they spend lots of time on the ground, and are large enough to get noticed.

You’ll find them near all types of water, both on the coasts and inland, and even hanging out at local city parks.

But can you tell them apart?

[Music and gulls calling]

Gulls are often black and white, but their identification isn’t.

Their plumage changes depending on age and season—and even then, there are individual variations to reckon with. So it is tempting to conclude that gull identification is out of reach.

Let’s face it, Gull ID is not easy… even for experienced birders. But don’t panic. Gulls are identifiable and I’m here to help.

[Gulls calling]

[Kevin in field: Look, there, there’s more of them]

Join me, Kevin McGowan, in this self-paced, online course where we make gull identification approachable.

We’ll train you to feel more confident identifying gulls.

We’ll look at gull plumages of both standing and flying birds.

And take into account season and age for all commonly-occurring gulls in North America.

I’ll help you make sense of the sometimes intimidating variations, point out the ones you can ignore, and clarify the ones you need to focus on.

Our interactive exercises will allow you to practice what you’ve learned as much as you like—giving you the chance to refresh your skills before heading into the field.

Gulls can be difficult, but with this course, I know you can become comfortable identifying these challenging birds.

I hope you’ll join me to learn about gull ID.
