This was a challenge but overall I learned a lot. I learned mostly that no matter how weird the final outcome turns out, we can always find little successes. I'm going to take this lesson with me in the rest of my sketching. It gives me freedom to just draw and make mistakes but end with always looking for the details that were a success. I surprised myself with the small contours that I got right even if the overall drawing looked strange. A good life lesson too I think.

    1. I felt unqualified to start drawing without any training, but as I began I realized I have more skills in my tool belt already than I realized. It was easy to get the general shape of the bird, but the details were more challenging for me. I tried to upload a photo but it was too big. Also the main challenge was learning how to manipulate and correctly use the watercolor pen. I'm going to watch a few youtube tutorials (or maybe it's covered in the next classes?) to learn. 2. I don't think I would have noticed all of the dark colors and the crisp lines especially in the beak, eye, and wing. I think that when you pay attention, that's when you notice the true details.

    1. I was actually inspired to start nature journaling by reading a book "Planetwalker" By John Francis. He spent years walking and painting/sketching his surroundings. I have always loved the outdoors (particularly birds) and I did some of my own nature journaling back in college. Now that I'm on a Sabbatical I'm excited to jump back into the practice for my own enjoyment and self-discovery. 2. I like the writing interspersed with drawings. I was more drawn to the less organized journals than the ones that were more formal. I also liked the journals with no lines or grids. 3. I would love to incorporate poetry into my journal as well even if it's just a few lines. It could be my own poetry from that moment or a line or two I'm reminded of while sketching.
