ED128B23-8625-4C23-9A3F-319A4D3D30F2I chose to look at the various kelp that I found on the Tofino BC beaches when I visited there early October 2021.  I was astounded at how many types there were that were coming on shore due to the high storm season as I hadn’t seen nearly as many on previous visits in the summer.  I have pictures of about 15 types both red and brown and then went into BC Coastal resource site on line to read more about them.  Fascinating to look at the ecosystems they are part of and how many are edible as is as well as being used in other food types (salad dressing).  Looked also at impact of sea urchin decimating kelp areas and the sea otters with the harvesting restrictions. Really enjoyed this exercise.

Sitting on the edge of the river ravine, hearing birds, water below, city sounds in distance, fall is coming and colors are less vibrant, less smell of showers and more of aging leaves, flowers, as well as the water now lower and a dull brown versus the verdant green/white of earlier in the summer.  Sight sense easiest for me, then smell and hearing slower, almost as it has dulled over the years.  Slowing down is a challenge however if I add in breathing exercise, mindfulness meditation it has been much easier and much richer an experience.

My father often sketched nature whether scenery, a flower, bird, plant but never had a story with it.  I saw journals with stories for various life aspects and the nature one intrigued me the most.  I liked the idea of small sketches and stories thru the day, sort of like Liz but also some of the other ones.  I might be more likely to journal about my day and then put in sketches perhaps without all the info about the item I am doing.
