    It is wonderful to know that you can get to know birds as individuals, from when they were in an egg until their death. I would guess that there is sadness when a bird that you have known all their life dies. And also, thank you for telling us where in trees we might see a crow's nest!

    I learned here that hummingbirds migrate during the day and can go into turpor at night. I learned from other resources of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology that other birds migrating north to the US in the spring fly at night, (and that is why man-made light can be disorientating)

    Turpor surprised me. I didn't know about that. And it is good to know it now, because now I won't worry about what happens to the hummingbirds I see when night comes, or when there is a long rainstorm. They are safely in a protected spot in turpor!
