GloriaParticipantNow I’m completing a Comparison study I started a few days ago. I sat out on the front porch and sketched three different ornamental trees/bushes. Since I started we’ve had several days of rain which has stimulated growth of buds and leaves. I also took some close-up photos as it has been rather cold for extended time observing.in reply to: The Power of Comparison #808818

GloriaParticipantI sat out on my porch and faced West looking out at the small border plots surrounding the stone patio. There is little evidence of perennial growth, but it changes everyday. A few bits of green are appearing in the Iris root area, and some greenery was showing leaf growth between the patio stones. Mostly it was sounds that I heard. A distant motor sound came for some time, perhaps some kind of tractor. Although I didn't see any birds there were several varieties of chirps and tweets surrounding me. I spent most of my time illustrating the metal fence surrounding my small backyard thinking of light and shading as it was late afternoon and the sun was showing its influence.in reply to: Opening Your Senses #806006

GloriaParticipantAfter a year of covid 19 secluded life I am always looking for some new activity that can be done alone , especially outdoors. I received the e-mail describing a course about drawing birds. As I read along, this course drew my attention as it included more about nature and would be perfect in spring when new buds are blossoming all around. Although, at 83, I no longer climb mountains, backpack trails and make long canoe trips, I look forward to nature journaling at my slower pace. I hope to improve my sketching and observation skills while outdoors.in reply to: Style Your Journal Your Way #803866
