I was surprised to read in "All about birds"  they will "eat almost anything...and chicks they rob from nests."  It seems to contradict what I just learned here.

IMG_20200531_072946 This one is much improved. I can really tell that it's more informed--details, shadows, subtleties of color. Still looks as wooden as the original, but hey, practice practice practice. This morning I woke up to the song of a yellow warbler in the bush outside my window. Coincidence?

This is my favorite exercise so far. It got me out of my judgmental, comparing place and just draw. I'm progressing through this course very slowly since I have zero drawing experience, but even crude drawings help me remember things.IMG_20200516_065140 - Edited

Just as I was bemoaning how poor I am at drawing and beating myself up because its so hard for me to identify birds, a beautiful huge bird flew by and came close enough that I could clearly see he was a bald eagle. I think maybe he winked at me.  Greetings to other COVID shelterers.

I think I'm replying to myself, but after I uploaded there was no other place to write. I'm a VERY late joiner. I promised myself to finish the Spring Bird course before I started, and it took me much longer than I anticipated. As for the bird picture, I read Drawing from the Right Side of the Brain many years ago and that's the sum of my experience. I don't have my materials yet, so I used what was on hand--a number 2 pencil and colored pencils. The image is brighter "in person."  Of course it would be absolutely impossible to draw a bird without a picture, and I learned so much more about the yellow warbler by drawing it. "I DO and I learn." and "from my fingers to my brain" come to mind.
