    Woodpeckers are pretty incredible in shaping the ecosystem. I imagine they also help breaking down dead and decaying trees as well to make room for new growth.

    For me it's the ability to hammer away at wood and other objects without giving themselves concussions. Does the tongue wrapping around the skull help with that?

    Yikes, that bobcat sound would freak me out if I heard it. Speaking of being freaked out, I was camping a few months back and heard some shriek at night - now I know it was most likely a Barn Owl.

    I think that crows are a bit bigger than the other birds listed. I occasionally have trouble telling crows apart from turkey vultures.
