I'm a beginning eBirder as I take this Nature Journaling course. One thing that I've observed is that the Black-throated sparrows here have a lot of brown on them. From the on-line photos it appears the adult males are primarily gray. Maybe I'm only noting juveniles, but even the bigger, more dominant birds have brown around their necks and onto the back. They flit around quickly and are very shy so I haven't gotten close enough to document with either my cell phone or a drawing, but I hope to - so I can figure out exactly what it is I'm seeing.

200209 chairoscuro As I started sketching outdoors, the light kept changing as the sun came and went behind clouds which changed the nature of both the light and highlight on the fruits and the shadows they cast, from strong to very diffuse. I am still exploring what marks give what kind of results, feeling far from accomplished, but getting a bit more comfortable.

When drawing, even when it's from a photo, you notice things that you didn't notice just glancing at the photo. I am encouraged by that because it occurs to me that I have a several years worth of photos I've taken during my travels that I can use for drawings, which will be an excellent way to  document and re-examine those places and visits. 200124 lesson 1.2
