When I learned about shade grown coffee being better for birds, I asked for bird friendly coffee for christmas and my husband gifted me some DELICIOUS dark roast from Birds and Beans. It is even tastier when I remember each morning that the birds can enjoy the habitat from which it came. I will definitely be buying more!

I am a U of A graduate, too, so I looked at this and was rather nostalgic. I wish they had use Sabino Canyon as another contrast spot nearby--my favorite natural place in the area. It is pretty incredible how much variation you can find in close proximity.

There are ospreys nesting near my grandmother's house in Melbourne Beach, FL, and I caught this photo of a pair in a tree nearby--turned out to be a lucky shot of a mating attempt!P1000648

I loved watching the catbirds in my yard in Philadelphia last summer—when I started watching birds in April, they were a discovery that amazed me because they were everywhere and obvious but I had never noticed them before. Then, they disappeared. Now, having watched the animated map, I can see where they went and when! I was hoping to catch up with them when I came to Florida in early December, but no dice. Now, from the map, it seems I was a month late. But no worries, I will be back in Philly by the time they return.

I am excited to use many of the Merlin tools-I have been using the Audubon app since May and I like it and have my bird lists there, but some of the frequency charts in Merlin are so cool! I wish there was a way to share data between Merlin and Audubon so my ids could appear in both places. Anyone know if this is possible ?

Yesterday, I realized the difference between fish crows and American crows, and identified the former by call, but then saw the difference in shape. Sounds can be so helpful and I want to study them more using some of the tools mentioned. Liz, Melbourne Beach, FL

Like others, I got this course as a gift since I have been birding during the pandemic as a new fun hobby since I discovered the Audubon app in late spring. I recently came to Florida from my home in Philadelphia and I am having such fun watching birds on the beach. This is a photo of my favorites: Royal Terns. I like how their wintertime black heads look like Groucho Marx eyebrows. In the photo you can also see a ruddy turnstone, which took me forever to identify. It is hard learning to bird while social distancing since it is less easy to talk with experienced birders. Even so, I am proud to have identified more than 70 birds! I wish I had a better camera to get some closeup shots. Some of you have some amazing photo skills!76782D29-6626-42BF-8DAD-EF40351785D4
