PamelaParticipantCrazy sequence. Working through my Bird Academy class after a travel break. Since I picked some beloved daffodils this morning, I decided to compare two similar ones. What are the part names? I wondered. Looked them up. Found images on the Daffodil Society pages. There's a daffodil society? I looked around the page. There is a National Daffodil Show? Where? 35 minutes from where I live? When? Next week! Now it is on my calendar. I just love daffodils!in reply to: The Power of Comparison #1019389

PamelaParticipantLike you, I'm learning. What I love most is, like you express here, is seeing things in new ways. Even learning more.in reply to: The Power of Comparison #1008892

PamelaParticipantThere were contractors working out back, but I found a corner of my patio to sit in the sunny/cool mid-day. It's usually pretty noisy on weekends, and yet, no mowers. The contrast of living in the woods, but in a development is unique, and I noticed the ranges of sounds, including birds. I used a deck upright and some patio blocks to frame my sketch, which was fun. The late afternoons also include waterfowl settling in near the water nearby. I'm going to enjoy noting both seasons and time of day in this sit spot.in reply to: Opening Your Senses #1008890

PamelaParticipantI'm loving your shapes-- the bird's head and the twisty tree. You've reminded me of a twisty vine out back that I think I will now visit :-)in reply to: Opening Your Senses #1008888

PamelaParticipantI felt good drawing from the photo and eager to learn more about the difference. I am just learning to sketch, so I was aware of lines and shapes and beginning to sketch in values before I switched to color. I liked playing with the edges of the bird and thinking about how to sketch the mushroom and yellow spongy lichen on the branch. I realized the things I need to work on: Shape of the bird, beaks, eyes, feathers. If I hadn't been asked to draw it, I would not have seen the context of lichen echoing the yellow of the bird. I am unsure of my own eye, so I'm eager to find the differenced between sketching nature and photos.in reply to: Jump Right in! #1007805
