That was a great exercise in not getting caught up in what your drawing looks like, sometimes I get so stressed about the drawing I forget to enjoy the observation. None of my blind contours looked like what I was drawing ,but the line was strong and I did get details that I might have overlooked if I was trying to make it look like what I thought it should look like, if that makes any sense. This also heightened my awareness of angles and small detail that made me ask questions ,not just how do I draw this? Perhaps I will do this before I start any drawing.

I have noticed that the birds in my yard are most active in the morning and only a few are active later in the day. imageThe chickadees and a wren are more bold, the sparrows stay close to the trees and are only visible in the morning. Are birds like us, needing breakfast after a long night of no food? Where do the sparrows go for the rest of the day ? Why are city sparrows so bold and my gold crown and white crowned sparrows so shy? Do birds have different personalities?

Drawing from a photo is helpful as the subject stays still. If I had not drawn the bird and just looked at a photo, I would not have realized the feather patterns and the shape of the warbler , the chest area and head are quite distinct . The bright yellow color would have been the main take way had I just looked at the photo.

My 87year old mother in law has kept travel journals for years, now that she is unable to travel she loves looking at then and remembering her past. I wish to do he same, better late then never. I love the idea of using boxes to organize space, I think I might try that. Date ,time ,place and weather , oddly is not something I had thought of. Thanks great first lesson.
