IMG_4097A very challenging exercise for me. My brain wanted to see this as an upside down bird. I had moments when I could focus on the shapes and relationships and other times when my mind would freeze up! This made me understand that I need to relax and refrain from drawing something that isn't really in front of me. That was cool!

imageimageI really enjoyed trying to capture the constant shifting and moving. It felt as though I was getting to know the animals better than I would have with a photo.

imageIt was difficult to refrain from looking. As I drew I suddenly felt the movement of the animal more than the actual form. I plan to practise this in my backyard while bird watching. (That is if it ever stops raining!)

I thought I was concentrating well and kept my eyes on the subjects but my goodness my results were hilarious.

IMG_4080IMG_4078I've enjoyed practicing these drawing skills. It seems to take me forever to draw a simple object. I expect my confidence will improve with practice. I can't imagine taking this much time while drawing in the forest. The days are shorter here in British Columbia I'd be drawing in the dark lol! Haven't tried fruit yet. Great to see everyone's art!

IMG_4073There were over 100 sea gulls at the Lagoon why so many birds? perhaps there are a lot of fish in the Lagoon this year. our summer was cooler this year, perhaps the fish were more abundant because of the higher water levels and cooler temperatures. More gulls because of more food

    • There was a lot going on at my site so I had a lot of notes.   It was easy to identify bird species since most are common where I live. I was surprised to find that I had difficulty sitting quietly for 15 minutes. I'm not really sure about how to take measurements I suppose I have a lot to learn! Fun experience!

    • The colour and the markings were clearer in the photo and there was more time to add some details since the subject remained stationary  On the other hand I had trouble with perspective. IMG_4039
